I'm so sick of this laptop fucking up. It's been blue screening pretty much constantly for the past year. It keeps giving me bugcode usb drive errors which lets me know that something installed incorrectly, but I have no clue what. At its worse, last summer, it would bluescreen multiple times a day... now, it's once every couple of days, but it's still a huge annoyance because I can't risk work on my thesis proposal disappearing due to bluescreens. Last summer, I ended up changing out the hard drive because Daniel had an extra one with windows 7 on it, and while it worked fine for a while, lately, it's been bluescreening like I said, and it's giving me the same error as before. This leads me to think that it was never my hard drive failing that was the issue, it's something else.

A few weeks ago, I decided I was ready to get ride of this behemoth, and I ordered a new laptop.

...but it still hasn't even shipped! It was actually $899 when I purchased it, so I saved an insane amount of money. I've never had an HP laptop before, so I'm unsure of how I will like it. Same with windows 8, I have such limited experience with it that I feel like I won't like it as much until I take the time to get used to it.

I'm so ready to get rid of this piece of junk that I have now. I have dealt with this laptop's issues for far too long. I've had this thing since February 2010, and it's the longest that I've ever had a laptop. GOOD RIDDANCE. You will not be missed.

I'm ready for my new laptop to get here.

My guess is its the motherboard fritzing out on you. Seems to be the biggest issue with most consumer grade laptops. :/

I've had mixed luck with HP--my old laptop from 2008 had an overheating gpu but it still works (after I did some surgery on it). What model is your new laptop?

My old HP Pavillion had overheating problems too- apparently it was a pretty common issue in their notebooks. I'd think that newer models won't have this issue anymore.

I currently don't own a computer, ever since my Acer laptop kicked it, and i've been using various school/other people's computers. (She needs a new mainboard, but i don't have the time/money/energy to deal with it right now...) Windows 8 is kinda awkward for me, but people i know who use it have gotten used to the transition pretty quickly.

I've been using Macs a lot... and i'm starting to kinda like it..

My friend Alex's laptop has windows 8, and he let me mess around on it a bit, and it was so fucking weird! I didn't know what to do. haha.

Macs are not my deal. Plus, they're insanely expensive.

I hate Apple so much, but this MacBook Pro i'm using right now is so sexy that's it's winning me over. not that i could ever afford a MacBook or would ever willingly give Apple my money. I do prefer working on Mac for any kind of graphics assignments, but i hate Adobe almost as much as i hate Apple and i vow to never give them my money either.

For users that need versatility and user-friendliness you gotta go with PC, all the way. Once you get Windows 8 i'm sure you'll get used to it really quick.

My new laptop is an "HP ENVY dv7t Quad Laptop, Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM" my old one is a huge ass Toshiba satellite with an i3 processor and a good graphics card.

I have a cooling fan, so overheating shouldn't be so much of an issue.

Just realized you included a link to the laptop in the entry--that's what I get for reading lj on my phone. -_-

Cooling fans should help but they don't help every laptop in my experience. Some just have weird venting and heat sink design that makes fans semi-useless. :\

Good luck with the new laptop though!
